Spectroscopy Instrumentation & Operations
Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory spectroscopy systems including infrared spectrometers/microscopes and Raman spectrometers/microscopes
Ensure optimal performance and accuracy of all spectroscopic instrumentation through preventive maintenance and troubleshooting
Develop and implement calibration protocols and quality assurance procedures for spectroscopic measurements
Stay current with advances in spectroscopy technology and recommend equipment upgrades or acquisitions
Quality Control & Analysis:
Perform comprehensive infrared and Raman quality control measurements of materials to support customer requirements
Analyze complex spectral data to identify material properties, composition, and potential quality issues
Generate detailed EMXLAB Quality Control reports with clear findings, interpretations, and recommendations
Ensure timely delivery of quality control results to meet project deadlines and customer expectations
Standard Operating Procedures & Process Improvement:
Develop, maintain, and continuously improve Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for spectroscopic data collection
Establish and document best practices for sample preparation, measurement protocols, and data analysis workflows
Train team members and internal customers on proper spectroscopic techniques and procedures
Implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and reproducibility of measurements
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Expert-level knowledge of spectroscopic theory, measurement techniques, and data interpretation
Proven experience in materials characterization and quality control applications
Strong programming skills in MATLAB, Python, R, or similar analytical software platforms
Experience with statistical analysis methods including regression analysis and error quantification
Education/Experience:
A bachelor’s degree in a science field (i.e., physics, chemistry) from an accredited college or university with at least 12 years of experience in experimental or applied science (physics, chemistry, or related) OR a master’s degree in a science field (i.e., physics, chemistry) from an accredited college or university with at least 6 years of experience as described above OR a Ph.D. in a natural science.
Certificates/Licenses:
None Required
Clearance:
The ability to obtain a Department of Defense Secret clearance and Department of Homeland Security Fitness is required for this position.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervision of the technical activities performed by the more junior staff members assigned to the project is required for this position.
Working Conditions/Equipment:
The incumbent professional is expected to be present at the work site and/or be available during regular business hours. He/she should also generally be available via e-mail or phone during non-business hours as needed to address critical issues or emergencies.
The above job description is not intended to be an all-inclusive list of duties and standards of the position. Incumbents will follow any other instructions, and perform any other related duties, as assigned by their supervisor.
